Top 10 things to do in Las Vegas

Even if you stayed in Las Vegas for a month, you could never take advantage of everything offered. Of course there is gambling and squandering hours away by the pool — but that’s just barely scratching the surface. From epic performances to bacchanalian feasts, here are the top things to do in Sin City.

1. Learn about mob history

What better way to discover the city’s torrid past than at the newly opened Mob Museum downtown? Learn about mob busters like J. Edgar Hoover and the people they sought, from Al Capone to Carlo Gambino to John Gotti. Admission $19.95 for adults; 300 Stewart Ave., 702-229-2734, themobmuseum.org. (Credit: The Mob Museum)

2. Explore the LINQ

For a taste of the strip without the added annoyances of escort service flyers, street magicians and people dressed like Darth Vader, head to this newly opened area between The Quad Resort & Casino and Flamingo Las Vegas. Find quaint shops, good food, frozen drinks you can take to go and the recently opened High Roller, which, at 550 feet, is the world’s largest observation wheel. thelinq.com. 3. Stay at the Nobu Hotel

Located in the marvel that is Caesars Place (a reproduction of the Trevi Fountain or a life-sized replica of Michelangelo’s David, anyone?), the Nobu Hotel is a posh place to land. The rooms are clean and comfortable with one of the best beds in the city, perfect for snuggling up in and ordering room service breakfast straight from celebrity chef Nobuyuki “Nobu” Matsuhisa’s restaurant downstairs. Get the green tea waffles with yuzu cream and Nobu’s version of eggs Benedict, and enjoy dining in a plush robe while the city starts buzzing below you. 4. Climb the mini Eiffel Tower

This version of the iconic Eiffel Tower in the Paris Las Vegas Hotel is exactly one-half the size of the original, but it’s still tall enough to get a stunning, 360-degree view of the city. Info: Admission starting at $7.50; 3655 Las Vegas Blvd. S., 888-727-4758, parislasvegas.com. (Credit: Paris Las Vegas Hotel)

5. Sing along with Brit

We saw her rise to the top when she first started asking us to hit her baby one more time, just to watch her fall as things got tough. Well now, she’s back. Most Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays, you can find Brit moving her tail feather at Planet Hollywood in an energetically charged, multi-costumed performance. Tickets $59-$500; 3667 Las Vegas Blvd. S., 866-919-7472, planethollywoodresort.com. (Credit: Ethan Miller/Getty Images)

6. Get hypnotized by the Fountains of Bellagio

From 3 p.m. to midnight, you can watch the pool in front of the Bellagio come to life as the water dances in sequence to various tunes. With more than 1,000 water shooters, the effect is powerful and entrancing, making this a great break from the bustle of the strip. Info: 3600 Las Vegas Blvd. S., 866-987-6667, bellagio.com. 7. Feast at the Wynn

Buffets are definitely a thing in Vegas, but one of the best is found between lavish baskets of hanging fruit and flowers at the Wynn. Open daily from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. and 3:30 to 10 p.m., this feast features 15 cooking stations with chefs whipping up crepes, grilled meats, omelets and pasta dishes. Leave room for seconds (and thirds). From $20.99 for weekday breakfast to $39.99 for gourmet dinner, plus $15 for unlimited drinks; 3131 Las Vegas Blvd., 702-731-7292, wynnlasvegas.com. 8. See the Sharks at Mandalay Bay

Get a sense of the sea in the middle of the desert at the Mandalay Bay’s Shark Reef, an exhibit inside the hotel where you can feed sharks and sting rays, watch sea turtles and feel like you’re inside a fish tank. Info: $18 for adults; 3950 Las Vegas Blvd. S., 702-632-7777, mandalaybay.com. (Credit: Mandalay Bay)

9. Take a roller coaster ride through Manhattan

For the price of your typical Vegas drink, you can take the New York New York Hotel and Casino’s 67 MPH Big Apple Coaster, which lasts for almost three minutes and features a 144-foot drop and a scream-inducing 540-degree spiral. Info: $14; 3790 Las Vegas Blvd. S., 866-815-4365, nynyhotelcasino.com. (Credit: New York New York Hotel and Casino)

10. Get hitched

Okay, maybe this isn’t for everyone. But if you’re looking to join the more than 100,000 people that do it each year, there are around 50 wedding chapels in the city, including the famous Graceland Wedding Chapel, where you can get hitched, or even have your vows renewed by “Elvis.” Info: 619 Las Vegas Blvd. S., 800-824-5732, gracelandchapel.com.
